What will we Sustain? Reflections After One Year in the Pandemic

This time last year, the NYU community felt a collective shock. For students, the shock may have been a buzz of excitement at the prospect of staying at home because “Zooming” into class actually sounded thrilling. But for most, the shock slowly creeped into a panic as more blue, green, and white masks started to pop up around the City. Whatever the feeling was, we are now grappling with it one year later. The following are a collection of student stories about what they learned about themselves, their connections to others, and their connections to the environment this past year.
Tips for Sustainable Plant Care

Taking care of a plant is similar to self-care! Just like you, plants need certain things in order to THRIVE:
- A regular intake of water to keep hydrated
- Food for strength
- Daily access to light
- Enough personal space to allow for growth
- A friend that looks out for you
NYU Sustainability 2020 #YearinReview
2020 was a year unlike any other. We joined our colleagues and peers across NYU, the country, and the world in adapting and adjusting to the changes brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, while continuing to progress in our sustainability work. In many ways, 2020 was an exceptional year for sustainability at NYU: we were recognized and ranked internationally for the collective efforts of students, faculty, administrators, and staff across the University; we launched new initiatives related to environmental and racial justice; and we joined a climate commitment aimed at food-related greenhouse gas emissions – our first non-building related pledge.
