Burcht 1 and 3 sites
The ‘Burcht’ sites are located in the old town center of the modern city of Antwerp in Belgium. From 2008-2009 large-scale excavations occurred at several locations within the ‘Burcht’, under the direction of the Department of Archaeology of the city of Antwerp. These excavations uncovered evidence of human activity since Prehistoric times, but the majority of archaeological artifacts came from the site’s 9th-10th century trading town occupation.
