In 2007, leading primate expert Dr. Daris Swindler donated his Primate Dental Cast Collection to CSHO. The cast collection consists of more than 2200 dental casts of specimens from major anthropological and natural history museums around the world.  The collection includes casts of every primate species known (and some non-primate relatives), as well as several human populations. It also includes radiographs, dental casts, metric data and notes on a longitudinal study of macaque growth and development.  Dr. Shara Bailey and her students are working to scan the entire collection in three-dimensions and make it virtually available for remote researchers via an internet database. The collections will provide the foundation for developing standards for scoring non-human primate dental morphological variation, for studies of human and non-human primate variation as well as studies of growth and development.
