Current Research
I am an archaeologist specializing in GIS and landscape approaches to political and social complexity, particularly outside of conventional states and hierarchies. In my current research, I use spatial analyses to address questions regarding landscape and its role in social investment in the ancient world. My dissertation, Dynamic Communities in Early Medieval Aquitaine: A GIS Analysis of Roman and Medieval Landscapes in the Vézère Valley, Dordogne, France, examined changes in community, social, and political practice in the face of global events, including the dissolution of the Roman Empire, the Late Antique Little Ice Age, and the migration of groups across Europe. In addition to my work in France, I have worked in Peru, North America, Ireland, and Oman. Currently, I am the Geospatial Specialist and a field school supervisor at the multi-period ceremonial site of Dun Ailinne. I am actively involved in teaching and outreach and have experience working in the commercial archaeology sector as well.
