The annual HackNYU event is one of the largest student-run hackathons in the country. Eric Kwok, one of the Co-Chairs of HackNYU 2018, reflects on what it takes to put together such a large event, some of his favorite projects, and why the diversity of the hackathon and HackNYU’s organizational team gives him hope for the future.

LaGuardia Studio Places 2nd in AMUG Technical Competition
The powers of Marvel Comics character Jane Foster were on full display at this year’s AMUG Conference. Inspired by Foster’s signature Thor armor, Dhemerae Ford, an Advanced Media Specialist at the LaGuardia Studio, presented a 3D printed prototype of Jane Foster’s helmet, which showcased details from the character’s costume and symbols found in Norse mythology.
Computerized Creativity and Commentary
An entire floor dedicated to artistic expression, technological advancement, and social commentary was open to the public on Tuesday, May 15 and Wednesday, May 16, when the NYU Tisch School of the Arts hosted their bi-annual Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) show. The event offers ITP students the opportunity to present their completed works.
A Tiara Fit for Wonder Woman
Lynda Carter is best known for her starring role in the 1970s television series Wonder Woman. For the Met Gala, she wore a brilliant gold tiara reminiscent of the gold tiara she wore in her most famous role. The tiara that garnered so much press attention was created using the 3D modeling and printing resources of NYU’s LaGuardia Studio.

Out of 81 final submissions and 501 participants, there were 16 winners across categories such as Assistive Technology, Educational Technology, Healthcare, and Sustainability & Social Impact, as well as recognitions awarded by event sponsors.
