Jonathan Ahrens, Software Engineer, joined DLTS in December 2022. He develops applications that support our efforts to preserve research data and make Special Collections materials available online. Prior to DLTS, Jonathan worked in NYU-IT, where he was a member of the Institutional Solutions Group’s Operations Technology Services and Support (OTSS) team. Before joining NYU, he worked as a software developer in a variety of industries.
Damon Chu, Junior Software Developer, joined DLTS in August 2022. He develops web-based tools for content curation, display and discovery. Damon is an NYU grad in Global Liberal Studies who worked as a judicial intern and a contact tracer while learning software development.
Jonathan Greenberg, Digital Scholarly Publishing Specialist, joined DLTS in April 2018. Working in both DLTS and NYU Press, Jonathan holds a central editorial, advisory, coordinating and liaison role for enabling the publication of online scholarly content, as well as advising faculty on a range of scholarly communication options and questions. He also manages the editorial process for digital projects developed by NYU Press. Prior to joining NYU, Jonathan spent many years at RILM, the music bibliography and abstracts publisher.
Laura Henze, Senior User Experience / User Interface Designer, works on all aspects of site design and front-end development. Laura holds an MPS from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications program and she has held a variety of positions in U/X design and development, from commercial institutions to nonprofits. Prior to joining NYU in late 2013, Laura held positions at CUNY and at Columbia’s Center for Digital Research and Scholarship and taught courses at The College of Westchester.
Carol Kassel joined DLTS in December 2012 as Senior Manager of Digital Library Infrastructure and became Director of DLTS in June 2023. Carol leads the strategy for digital library development, including design and ongoing implementation of activities including digitization, digital preservation, repository services, and scholarly publishing. She has been involved in publishing, technology, and digital libraries for over 25 years. Prior to NYU, Carol spent 11 years at Columbia University, working on digital libraries and collaboration systems.
Don Mennerich joined DLTS in January 2014 as a Digital Archivist and became a Senior Digital Archivist in December 2022, working with forensic tools and their relationship to managing born-digital archives. Prior to working at NYU, he held positions at The New York Public Library, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and Yale University Library. Don holds an MS in Information Systems from Pace University and an MLS from Simmons College.
David Millman, Associate Dean for Technology/Chief Information Officer, has been at NYU since 2008. He previously held several roles at Columbia University, including Senior Director of Research, Teaching and Learning Technologies in the central IT unit. He was Managing Director of Technology for Columbia’s distance learning initiative, Digital Knowledge Ventures, and was the technology director for EPIC, the Electronic Publishing Initiative at Columbia. Millman has developed and managed Internet-based services since the 1980’s, including reference book databases, art museum collections and scholarly publications.
Nicole Najera joined DLTS in February 2022 as a Project Manager. She leads projects big and small, helping DLTS fulfill our commitment to the many services in our portfolio. Prior to DLTS, Nicole spent many years at NYU IT, which she joined in 2010 as an Administrative Aide. From there, she worked in project management for several years before becoming the inaugural Student Relationships Manager in 2017. In this role, Nicole created the program to simplify and support the hiring and management of student workers. Nicole has a master’s degree in Food Studies from NYU.
Alberto Ortiz Flores, Senior Software Developer, joined DLTS in 2009. He is responsible for architecting and managing our publication and discovery platforms. He has a degree in Business Administration, Marketing Management from University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus.
Ekaterina Pechekhonova joined DLTS in 2004 as a Programmer/Analyst, became a Senior Programmer/Analyst in 2014, and transitioned to Senior DevOps Engineer in December 2019. In this role, Kate is responsible for DLTS’s infrastructure, including our roadmap, architectural decision-making, and workflows. Kate has participated in establishing the Faculty Digital Repository (FDA), worked on various aspects of the preservation repository, and assisted in creating and maintaining various digital collections including Afghanistan Digital Library. She has also been involved in the setup and ongoing development of our audio/video streaming environment.
Joseph Pawletko, Senior Software Developer, works on digital infrastructure, content processing, and preservation. Joseph holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from Duke University and an MS in Computer Science from NYU.
Rasan Rasch is a Senior Software Developer whose work for DLTS has touched every aspect of our infrastructure. He has built DLTS’s transcoding infrastructure for audio and video, worked on preservation of digital content, and spearheaded the publication of digital content from images to books to audio and video.
Michael Stasiak, Digital Content Manager, joined DLTS in 2013 as a Digital Imaging Specialist and became the Digital Content Manager in 2018. With his special knowledge of digital photography and digital preservation practices, Michael oversees the creative and organizational components of all of our print digitization projects. Michael attended NYU as an undergraduate, earning a bachelor’s degree in English and Journalism. Before joining DLTS, he wrote and edited stories for the now-defunct PRINT Magazine.
Yu Sun joined DLTS as a Data Repository Engineer in May 2022. He builds tools and systems to support the research data lifecycle and facilitate open-access publishing. Prior to joining DLTS, he worked at NYU Stern School of Business for several years, where he managed and maintained a variety of systems, including servers, storage systems, and Active Directory. Yu has a Master of Science in Management and Systems from the NYU School of Professional Studies.
Derrick Xu, DevOps Engineer, joined DLTS in October 2018. His responsibilities include server configurations, deployments, system architecture, and more. His previous experience includes 8 years at App Partner, where he worked on such tasks as deploying and maintaining architectures on AWS, performing sysadmin duties on over 100 Linux servers, and overseeing continuous integration pipelines. Prior to App Partner, Derrick worked as a research scientist for New England Bio Labs.
