Hi all,
Our latest win is many wins in one!
- We just rolled out the infrastructure to be able to display captions and transcripts for A/V content.
- We published captions and transcripts for “Soul of Reason”.
- Many of these captions and transcripts have been edited by folks in DLTS and Preservation.
- Some of the captions and transcripts were edited via a DH seed grant project run by Alex Provo.

As more captions/transcripts are edited, we will replace the autocaptioned versions with the edited ones.
We’ll also be rolling out more captions and transcripts as they are available.
This win also celebrates a whole lot of pre-work that went into this:
- Getting our vendor-based caption/transcript solution on board
- Setting up an automated method for passing A/V files to the vendor and retrieving captions/transcripts
- Getting accustomed to the human-editing interface and provisioning users to access it
- Developing a method to store captions/transcripts, prep them for publication, and pass relevant info to the publication infrastructure to be able to display the items
I think I have to thank just about everyone in DLTS, but off the top of my head, the list includes Alberto, Deb, Joe, Juelle, Kate, Laura, Michael, Rasan, and honorary DLTS member Alex.
