Inside the MakerSpace at Tandon’s MetroTech Center, Victoria Bill, MakerSpace Manager, and Gabriella Cammarata, recent graduate of the Integrated Digital Media master’s program, are leading a class in which students 3D print braces for children living with cerebral palsy.
3D Printing Materials for Submersible Vehicles
Syntactic foam is a substance that lends submersible vehicles both strength and buoyancy. Nikhil Gupta, an associate professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, has developed a filament that will enable the foam to be printed on standard commercial 3D printers.
NYU Professor Yann LeCun One of Three Recipients of 2018 Turing Award
Congratulations to NYU professor and Tech Summit keynote speaker Yann LeCun, one of three researchers to receive the 2018 Turing Award. LeCun, Yoshua Bengio and Geoffrey Hinton, were honored with the $1 million “Nobel Prize of computing” in recognition of their work in AI deep learning.
HackNYU 2019 Winners
The winners of HackNYU 2019 are in! Twenty-one projects took home awards in a field full of innovative, novel ideas that were developed over the 48 hours of the hackathon, which included 13 winners across the hackathon’s tracks and 11 additional awards from sponsors and partners.
SONYC Project to Research Noise Pollution
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) featured the SONYC project in their February, 2019 newsletter. SONYC’s goal is to leverage “the latest in machine learning technology, big data analysis, and citizen science reporting to more effectively monitor, analyze, and mitigate urban noise pollution.”
