Perfective Constructions

Perfective constructions indicate a completed action.  Different constructions are used depending on the time of completion.   

Intransitive verbs: Subject  + Verb  [stem] -आ /-या/ -ए/-ई/- ईं [Present/Past/Presumptive/ Subjunctive Perfective]

Transitive verbs: Subject (ने)  +  (Object) + Verb  [stem] -आ /-या/ -ए/-ई/- ईं [Present/Past/Presumptive/ Subjunctive Perfective]

For example:

  • इस साल भारत में जून में  बहुत गरमी  पड़ी. In India this year it was very hot in June. (Perfective)
  • कश्मीर में पिछले हफ़्ते बहुत बर्फ़ गिरी. In Kashmir last week, it snowed heavily in Kashmir last week. (Perfective)
  • केरल में जुलाई में बहुत  बारिश हुई होगी. Kerala must have very rains in July. (Presumptive Perfective)
  • शायद गोवा में गरमी नहीं पड़ी हो. Perhaps Goa has not been hot. (Subjunctive Perfective)
  • बच्चों ने बर्फ में निशान बनाये थे. The kids made imprints in the snow. (Past Perfective)
  • लोगों ने ऊनी कपड़े पहने हुए हैं. Paeople have put on woolen clothes. (Present Perfective)
