Mindful Living with Nature
Objectives: At the end of this unit, students will be able to:
- talk about how to care for birds and animals and why
- express likes and dislikes when taking care of the animals
- ask and answer questions on how to protect them
Performance Task: In the role of NGO activists, students write a letter to the local environment protection ministry about actions to help clean the environment hurting wild life.
Episode 1: In pairs, read two pages of the handout “पशु पक्षियों की देखभाल” (if needed use the option to listen and read-along). Highlight the excerpts about what Kavita likes and dislikes to do. Note down 5 useful words or phrases and define them.
Episode 2: In pairs, enter their answers to the following questions in the table below based on the article हम पशु-पक्षियों की देख-भाल करते हैं (text and glossary)

Episode 3: Class is divided into two teams. Each team chooses 10 words with their definition from the text. Each team takes turns in defining the word without saying it. If they guess correctly, then the team gets a point and whoever gets the most points wins.
Home Assignment: Students write in their journal 3 likes and 3 dislikes with reference to treatment of animals.
Episode 4: In their group, students view the photos and brainstorm about the language structures and vocabulary they will need to describe the photos and the problem depicted in them. They use the texts covered in unit III and list the language items in the table below. In one sentence they state what the dislike/disapproval is that the photographer is expressing. They use shabdakosh.com when needed.

Episode 5: In their group, students write a letter to the municipality of the National Wildlife Preserve in Ranthambore, India, about the garbage and polyethene bags on the roads and the danger they pose. The preserve is supposed to be the home to various animals and to save these animals, this place needs to be cleaned up. Give 3+ reasons why this needs to be done and make 3+ suggestions how. Use 10+ items from your list and highlight them.
They scan the vocabulary list and select useful expressions to use.
Home Assignment: Students complete the letter individually.
