Students read and work on three short stories from an online reader prepared by Aftab Ahmad
Interpretive task: Create a graphic organizer: Each student is assigned the role of an NGO worker – they are assigned to read at home a different story and according to the individual proficiency level and needs to develop a graphic organizer (a) of the story with the components समस्या > पात्र, परिस्थिति, घटनाएँ, उपाय (problem > characters, setting, events, solutions), or (b) of the issue reflected in the story and suggest specific ideas for changing the life of the character with components समस्या > परिभाषा, उदाहरण, समाधान एवं रुकावटें (issue > definition, example, solutions and challenges).
Interpersonal Task: Negotiate and create a TV feature news report: In groups of three, in the role of TV reporters, students with a different story (a) share with their partners their concept maps and ask and answer clarification questions, (b) agree on a common vocabulary list to use, (c) negotiate and create a report for a local TV station about the three main characters – how they met, what the NGO workers did and how their lives have changed.
Note: They have a simple rubric 1-3 – the story has: (a) clear beginning, middle and end, (b) rich vocabulary and phrases, (c) target structures are used appropriately and correctly: subjunctive with ‘in order to’ – taaki and expression of necessity with a noun: X-ko zaruurat/aavashyaktaa + honaa, an adjective zaruur/aavashyak and adverb zaruur/avashya.
Presentational Task: Gallery walk – students present their new story board; students write comments on sticky notes about what they like in the story of their peers and fill out the rubric.
