Course Requirements and Grading

WEEK 1-2 

Topic: My Vacation. Travel. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • exchange information about vacation
  • ask and answer questions about leisure activity preferences
  • discuss activities and interests 
  • make plans based on personal interests and the interests of others
  • ask about and identify important information about the weather using a map
  • describe a landmark and/or a place to visit and explain what to do there
  • identify places on the map to visit and explain why
  • review perfect tense (focus on transitives + ne)
  • use of subjunctive after an introductory clause with a different subject (maiN chaahtaa/tii huun ki …)

Topic: Leisure Activities. Travel. Fun. Celebrations.

Learning Outcomes:

  • ask and respond to questions about dates, times, places, and events on schedules, posters, and tickets
  • ask about and comment on a new activity or event 
  • exchange information about favorite activities  interests — favorite musical groups, books, video games, etc.
  • identify destinations and major attractions found in brochures and on websites
  • write a postcard, text, or Instagram message sharing information about activities and experiences
  • negotiate and come to an agreement about organizing a party/celebration
  • use infinitives in subject or object position
  • use relative-correlative sentences – jab…tab…, jitne….utne…

Topics: Personal Habits. Preferences. Roommates.

Learning Outcomes:

  • ask and answer questions about personal preferences
  • recognize and explain what good and bad habits are vis-a-vis hygiene
  • compare and contrast discipline rules based on age
  • express approval or disapproval
  • discuss personality and character traits based on a person’s actions
  • use obligatory constructions with focus on object-transitive infinitive agreement
  • use subjunctives as polite commands or suggestions
  • relative-correlative – jo…vah…, jaise, vaise…

Topic: Body Parts. At the Doctor’s Office.

Learning Outcomes:

  • identify and explain body parts and their functions
  • make complains and describe pain
  • express agreement and disagreement, content and discontent 
  • recognize and make suggestions ways to improve health
  • express sympathy and console someone
  • use expressions with X-ko takliif + honaa, X-kii X-se shikaayat + honaa/karna

Topic: Nature and Health. Traditional vs. Conventional Medicine.

Learning Outcomes:

  • describe topographical features in detail 
  • explain how health is related to natural living
  • discuss living styles (village vs. city, mountain vs. plain, inland vs. sea/ocean shore)
  • compare and contrast conventional and traditional approach to treatment/health
  • use verb infinitives + complex postpositions 
  • use passive verb forms
  • use passive subjunctives for polite suggestions
