Course Requirements and Grading

Course Description and Learning Outcomes

WEEK 1-2: Food. Tastes. Eating Out.

Learning Outcomes: be able to

  • ask and answer questions about food and prices
  • give and follow orders
  • make and deny request
  • ask about taste, spices and recipes
  • use polite commands (subjunctive)
  • use conjunctive participle (-kar)
  • use indefinite pronouns 
  • use habitual tenses

Resources:

WEEK 3-4: Friends. Hobbies. Calendar.

Learning Outcomes: be able to 

  • ask about and describe persons, personality and appearance
  • ask about and describe activities
  • ask about  and express wishes and preferences
  • recognize and use days of the week and the months
  • use infinitive with chaahnaa
  • use infinitive with pasand honaaacchaa lagnaa
  • use present progressive tense
  • use more interrogative words
  • use comparative and superlative degree of adjectives

Preferences:

WEEK 5-6: Discipline. Habits. Time.

Learning Outcomes: be able to

  • ask and answer questions about personal preferences, hygiene and discipline 
  • describe about leisure activities, hobbies and habits 
  • make polite requests to do or not to do something
  • ask and tell time (round/half hour)
  • use of subjunctives 
  • use infinitives with postpositions (pahuNchne ke baad)
  • use compulsory constructions (X-ko infinitive with chaahiye, honaa and paRnaa)
  • use time expressions (saaRhe, pone, savaa…baje )

WEEK 7-8: At the Market Place. Shopping. Bargaining

Learning Outcomes: be able to 

  • exchange information about likes and dislikes and explain why
  • describe and ask questions about size, volume, weight, color  and shape
  • ask for permission; make a polite request; politely reject an offer
  • use ordinal numerals and fractions
  • use of ko to express definite object
  • use of oblique infinitive with jaanaa, lagnaa, denaa
  • use compulsory constructions with transitive verbs and objects (Xko infinitive with chaahiye, honaa and paRnaa)

WEEK 9-10: Seasons, Weather and Calendar. Travel Planning. 

Learning Outcomes: be able to

  • describe seasons and their main characteristics
  • match clothes with season 
  • describe weather related to geographical location
  • identify places on the map to visit and explain why
  • use future tense
  • use conjunct verbs
  • use of connectors (is liye, kyonki, fir, etc.)

WEEK 11-12: Seasonal and Regional Foods and Activities. Health.

Learning Outcomes: be able to

  • ask and tell time 
  • talk about time-of-the-day related activities and eating habits
  • recognize and describe activities related to specific weather or season
  • relate foods to seasons
  • report on activities in the past
  • use time expressions (...bajkar… minutes, … bajne meN … min)
  • use perfect tense with focus on transitive verbs requiring ne and agreement with the direct object

  • ask about and describe a series of past events
  • use introductory and ending conventinal phrases for story-telling
  • use cohesive markers
  • use perfect tense with focus on objects with ko and agreement in masculine singular
