CHRISTIAN BUSCH, PhD
Dr. Christian Busch is Clinical Assistant Professor at New York University’s Center for Global Affairs, where he directs the Global Economy concentration. He teaches on alternative growth strategies, purpose-driven leadership, impact entrepreneurship, social innovation, social networks, and emerging markets at NYU and at the London School of Economics (LSE). 

Dr. Busch is the co-founder of Leaders on Purpose, an organization convening high-impact leaders, as well as the Sandbox Network, a leading community of young innovators active in 20 countries. Previously, he served as inaugural Deputy Director at the LSE’s Innovation Centre.
 
He is among the Thinkers 50’s ‘top upcoming management thinkers’; Diplomatic Courier’s ‘Top 99 Influencers’; The Economist’s ‘Ideas People’; JCI’s ‘Ten Outstanding Persons’; and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (RSA). He frequently speaks at conferences such as the World Economic Forum (WEF), TED, and Financial Times Sustainability Summit, and his ideas have been featured by outlets such as Harvard Business Review and The Economist. In 2018, he received the LSE Department of Management’s “Teaching Excellence Award” for co-creating and co-leading a new course.

Dr. Busch has worked and studied in Mexico, Russia, China, Kenya, Germany, and the UK, and he has served as Senior Advisor at the National Entrepreneurs Association and at multinational companies, on the advisory boards of INACAP and RLabs, on Ashoka’s Selection Panel, and on the Jury of the African Entrepreneurship Award. He is part of the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Expert Forum, and has guest-lectured at Stanford University, ESADE, Peking University, and Strathmore Business School. His work has been published in outlets such as the Academy of Management Best Paper Proceedingsand the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Venturing, and has been featured by The Financial Times, The Guardian, Academy of Management Journal, among others. In 2016, he received the ‘Best Paper Award’ (Entrepreneurship) of Emerald Publishing, and the ‘Best Social Entrepreneurship Paper Award’ of the Academy of Management. 

His upcoming book “The Serendipity Factor” (Penguin Random House, 2020) – which develops a science-based framework for individuals and companies to help trigger and then leverage positive accidents – has been a finalist for the Financial Times / McKinsey Bracken Bower Prize for “best business book of a young author”. His work on The Impact Organization – describing how organizations can integrate profit and purpose at scale – was shortlisted for the 2017 Bracken Bower Prize.
