Our Creative Interdisciplinary Collaborations

The Production Lab welcomes creative collaborations across NYU’s schools, global campuses, and institutes.  If you are looking for an NYU co-collaborator at the intersection of art and commerce, let us know!

NYU Abu Dhabi Audio Post Production Partnership

The NYU Production Lab, a storytelling incubator, and NYU Abu Dhabi’s Music Technology and Sound Recording group have formed a partnership that offers unique experiential-learning opportunities for NYU’s creatives to collaborate across the globe. By pairing NY-based storytellers with NYU Abu Dhabi-based audio engineers and music technologists, NYU’s global network is expanding career development opportunities for students working in digital media and entertainment.

To date, this international post production collaboration has produced 15 episodes of LabCastfeaturing NYU playwrights, filmmakers, and podcasters going deep on the creative process.  And plans are in the works to soon be mixing and mastering a Production Lab Slate-supported film, the likes of which have premiered at festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca, and Cannes and reached audiences on Netflix, Amazon, and iTunes.

The Production Lab is grateful for the enthusiastic support of NYU Abu Dhabi Assistant Program Head of Music and Assistant Professor of Music Technology Matteo Marciano who oversees the produced work and prepares students for a successful future in audio engineering, production and post-production, multimedia, audio signal processing, acoustics, music perception, and game audio production.

Platforms: A Stern Signature Project

In collaboration with NYU’s Stern School of Business, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working with the next generation of storytellers at the NYU Production Lab. Each semester, the Production Lab partners with Stern’s Office of Student Engagement to pair Lab-supported content creators with Stern’s entertainment industry business graduate students, utilizing the power of interdisciplinary collaboration to achieve unique learning outcomes and tangible results.

Examples of past projects include the creation of innovative distribution and marketing strategies for the film CRONIES, directed by NYU Tisch alumnus Michael J. Larnell and executive produced by Tisch alumnus and Professor Spike Lee (more info here!)

The Production Lab is grateful for the passionate support of NYU Stern Professor Peter Newman (The Squid and the Whale) who is the faculty sponsor for this creative entrepreneurial collaboration.

NYU | Tribeca

Each April, the Production Lab celebrates NYU storytellers with work premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival.  This gathering of alumni, students, and festival representatives connects creatives from across the university — more than 75 short and feature length films, episodic works, and interactive VR & AR projects premiered at Tribeca’s 2019 festival, involving over 250 NYU storytellers.  That’s creative work worth celebrating!

We’re grateful to the NYU deans who help make this possible (including CAS, Gallatin, Liberal Studies, Steinhardt, Stern, Tandon, and Tisch) and the continued support of Jane Rosenthal (Gallatin ’77), co-founder of Tribeca Enterprises.
