VICE Episodic Storytelling Workshop
Over the Spring of 2019, The Production Lab and VICE partnered up to offer NYU content creators four intensive storytelling workshops, in which they developed and pitched episodic stories. The Devil You Know, by Patricia Gillespie, came out of this collaboration.
Screenwriting Development Studio
Running from 2017 to 2021, The NYU Production Lab Screenwriting Development Studio was an intensive, industry-facing annual program designed to connect and support emerging writers from across the NYU community. Over the course of 9 months, Writing Fellows worked together as a group, facilitated by Lab staff, to take 200-word ideas and develop them into shoppable feature-length screenplays.
IGNITE Podcast
Ignite Change: Impactful Storytelling Through Audio, was a fellowship that paired NYU’s leading faculty with talented students to bring impactful research to life in the form of compelling audio stories. Through skill-building workshops, industry mentorship, and experiential learning, students created original audio stories and brought new insights to the NYU community. The episodes were published in September 2021; listen to them on Spotify or iTunes.
WIX Podcast Academy
In the Summer of 2019, the NYU Production Lab partnered with Wix.com, on a summer-long intensive to help 8 creators launch their podcasts. Over the course of 8 weeks, Podcast Academy participants attended workshops, developed a pitch, gained hands-on experience with equipment, met with industry mentors, and received real-time feedback on their work.
INTERLUDE Collaboration
Interlude, a tech and media company, teamed up with the NYU Production lab to offer emerging media creators an exclusive opportunity to win $10,000 in production funds for an interactive series. In this collaboration, students used cutting-edge software to tell new kinds of stories.
Branded Content Incubator
The Branded Content series brought together a community of film, marketing, design, publicity and advertising students to develop the skills and networks required for a career in branded content. Led by UGFTV professor Jonathan Weinstein, participants learned how to infuse creativity into their branded content concepts, present fresh ideas to brands seeking content and collaborators, and make their own way in the industry.
Native American + Indigenous Film Festival
NYU’s Native American and Indigenous Students’ group presented The Native American + Indigenous Film Festival short films programs at the Production Lab in 2015 and 2016. The festival provides a platform for young Native American filmmakers to showcase their films, promoting conversations about issues faced by Native Americans and Indigenous populations.
The Sound Underground
The Sound Underground was a series of open mic nights, writing workshops, and jam sessions designed to bring NYU’s creative community together in collaboration and celebration of independent art.
