SYNOPSIS:
CALMA CHICHA is a fast paced comedy set in the countryside of Argentina that explores the power dynamics of a family drenched with machismo and homophobia. The story centers a gay agronomist who puts her coming-out plans on hold when she discovers that her machista mother is being scammed by her favorite son to sell the family’s historic crop land.
WRITTEN AND DIRECTED by Inés Gowland (Tisch Grad Film ’17)
Inés Gowland is an Argentinean filmmaker whose work has screened worldwide, including such festivals as Sundance, SXSW, Clermont-Ferrand, Atlanta, and San Sebastian. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Inés studied Cinematography at Universidad del Cine before moving to New York to attend NYU Graduate Film Program to pursue writing and directing, where she also became a Graduate Fellow for Cinematography. Inés is the recipient of the Chris Columbus Film Production Award, the Roger King Finishing Fund and the Peter Gould Scholarship, among others. She is a member of the International Collective of Female Cinematographers and was selected for the 2019-2020 ASC Vision Mentorship Program. Inés is currently developing her first feature film “Calma Chicha”, which was selected to participate in NYU Development Studio 202 and NYU Slate 2021 as well as EAVE Puentes 2020, Sundance Producing Summit 2021 and Cine Qua Non 2021.

Joy is the lead producer and founder of Killjoy Films. Born in the American South, Joy has a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia University and a Master’s Degree in Screenwriting and Directing at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. She is the recipient of a SAG Award for her work in television and the Media Services Award for excellence in creative producing. Her work as a producer has shown in major festivals all over the world, including Sundance, TIFF, and Clermont Ferrand.
