DEVELOPMENT STUDIO: SCREENWRITING
The NYU Production Lab Screenwriting Development Studio is an intensive, industry-facing annual program designed to connect and support emerging writers from across the NYU community. Writing Fellows work together as a group, facilitated by Lab staff, and workshop with guest faculty and industry mentors as they take a 200-word idea and develop it into a shoppable feature-length screenplay over the course of approximately 9 months.
NOTE: The Screenwriting Development Studio is on hiatus for the 2021-2022 Academic Year.
Part 1: Winter Studio. February 2021. The Winter Studio will provide you with the basics in screenwriting: structure, form, characters, themes.
Part 2: Writing Workshop One. April 2021. Writers will workshop the first draft of their scripts.
Part 3: Writing Workshop Two. June 2021. Writers will workshop the second draft of their scripts.
Part 4: Summer Workshop & Studio. August 2021. Writers will workshop the third draft of their scripts. The Summer Studio will also train you in pitching your screenplay.
Part 5: Pitch Event. Fall 2021. Pitch your project to an industry panel.
Applicants need only have an idea to apply; applicants must be a part of the NYU community. Those selected will develop this idea into a screenplay over the course of nine months, with the goal of submitting the finished product to the Production Lab for financial support the following academic year. Note there are no script budgetary limitations and all ideas are welcome! Additional questions? Check out our FAQs.
