Drought
The sun wanders each night
while on the world below
the land remains, awaiting his1 return
The land gave life to the trees
and they longed for the sun’s nurturing touch
The touch of the rays brought comfort
His absence was always felt
but they knew he would return
They also hoped the rain would return
to replenish the land once more
Each day, they needed her more.
But while they were left yearning for rain
the sun continued to appear.
They were left fighting over the droplets left
before she vanished for months
In those months, their brothers fell
The land dried up
and their own leaves started to yellow
Their leaves now shiver in the wind
with fear they may not survive until rainfall
They fear the sun’s return
Though he has no choice
He must witness the destruction he’s inflicting upon them
He must witness the land mourn
and pray for spring rains to come.

Essence
to the ones we lost
Love flowing through lifetimes, crossing through planes
Fleeting moments, anchored eternally
With every heartbeat, they flow through my veins
In every note, in every melody
Their very essence still seems to linger
Love flowing through lifetimes, crossing through planes
The words they once spoke have been lost to time
and words they once wrote lay encrypted yet
with every heartbeat, they flow through my veins
In each jump for joy or rhythmic step
I feel them move in unison with me
Love flowing through lifetimes, crossing through planes
The footsteps they left have been long swept away
by wind that once carried their laughter but
with every heartbeat they flow through my veins
Although they’re gone, their essence still remains
Still singing, speaking, dancing and laughing
Love flowing through lifetimes, crossing through planes
