Tandon student and NYU IT student employee, Iqra Shaikh, was named one of Forbes’ 2019 Under 30 Scholars! Shaikh is pursuing a master’s degree in computer engineering and works in IT’s High Performance Computing group. Shaikh will attend the Under 30 Summit in Detroit with several high-profile speakers and other young, ambitious scholars.
In her application essay, Shaikh described her path to Tandon and considered her parents’ support of her education to be a major contributor to her success. Shaikh passes that sense of support to others through her work as a Women in Data Science Ambassador, an active member of Tandon’s Creativity in Engineering, Science and Technology (CReST) group, and NYU’s GSTEM Initiative. Shaikh said, “I mentor a group of teenagers who are working on intensive research projects. The best part of this is the chance to interact with them, getting to know their thought processes and everyday experiences, along with sharing lessons that I have learned in my own STEM journey.”
