LiDAR, Insights for ArcGIS, Survey123, Web AppBuilder, and More
NYU Data Services is hosting a two-day Esri geospatial data workshop series. The workshops will cover LiDAR processing and 3D modeling using Esri’s ArcGIS platform, and three Esri apps: Insights for ArcGIS for data visualization and analytics, Survey123 for field data capture, and Web AppBuilder for visualization and sharing of collected data in a web app.

DAY-1: LiDAR and 3D in the Esri ArcGIS Platform
The world is witnessing exponential growth of LiDAR acquisition, implementation of high-resolution national elevation mapping initiatives such as the USGS 3D Elevation Program, and emergence of new sensors and systems — all of which is revolutionizing the adoption of point-cloud and other 3D remote sensing data. As organizations globally plan to be more resilient, intelligent, and sustainable, this remote sensing data serves as the foundation for migrating from 2D to 3D geographic information systems (GIS).
This workshop will cover the state of the market, demonstrate LiDAR classification best practices, derivative extraction, and methodologies for modeling Smart 3D City Models and environments from LiDAR using ArcGIS Pro. It will also show how these models can be shared with your organization and constituents as well as best practices for incorporating the generated LiDAR derivatives in CityEngine for planning and urban design.
- 9am-12pm: Extracting Value from LiDAR
9am-9:20am: Introduction to LiDAR
9:30am-12pm: Working with LiDAR—best practices for cleanup and classifying LiDAR in Esri ArcGIS Pro
12pm-1pm: Lunch on your own
1pm-3:30pm: 3D Scene Solutions with ArcGIS Pro—modeling 3D cities from LiDAR data in ArcGIS Pro and sharing to ArcGIS Online
3:45pm-5pm: CityEngine and Procedural Rules—introduction, interoperability between ArcGIS Pro and CityEngine, and Procedural Modeling
DAY-2: Esri Apps: Insights for ArcGIS, Survey 123, and Web AppBuilder
This day’s workshops provide an overview of Esri apps, focusing on Insights for ArcGIS for data visualization and analytics, Survey123 for field data capture, and Web AppBuilder for visualization and sharing of the collected data in a web app.
Spatial Analytics and Visualization with Insights
9am-10:45am
In this hands-on session, we’ll explore the Insights for ArcGIS app, a new app that enables iterative and exploratory analysis of your spatial or non-spatial data. Insights for ArcGIS provides an intuitive technology with a simple drag-and-drop user interface, which enables information to be easily extracted from data. Attendees will learn about various data sources to utilize within Insights for ArcGIS, and will practice different methods of analyzing and visualizing the data.
Field data capture with Survey123 and Web AppBuilder
11am-12pm
In this session, we will highlight Esri field data capture apps and focus on Survey123 as a form-centric app to collect data. The collected data will then be visualized and shared in the Web AppBuilder app.
