My Work
I am Assistant Professor of Learning Analytics at the Educational Communications and Technology (ECT) program at the Administration, Leadership and Technology (ALT) department of the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education and Human Development at the New York University (NYU).
I lead the Augment-Ed research group.
I am a member of the Learning Analytics Research Network (LEARN) at NYU.
I am Editor of the Journal of Learning Analytics
I am Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies
Previously,
I was Vice-president of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SoLAR)
I was Full Professor at the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) at Guayaquil, Ecuador.
I was director of the Information Technology Center (CTI) and Director of the Research Group on Teaching and Learning Technologies (TEA) at ESPOL.
I was Editor-in-Chief of the Revista Tecnológica, a multidisciplinary journal published by ESPOL.
My Research
My current research interests are:
- Learning Analytics: Measuring learning to help teachers and students to take better decisions
- Multimodal Learning Analytics: Using diverse signals to understand the learning process in physical spaces

I am a member of the Executive Committee of the Society for Learning Analytics Research (SOLAR).
I am involved in the Latin American Community on Learning Technologies (LACLO) and I have organized the LACLO Conference.
I was involved in the coordination of the Ariadne Foundation. Also directing the Center for Development and Support of ARIADNE at Guayaquil.
I represented LACLO at the Global Learning Objects Brokered Exchange (GLOBE) consortium.
I was part of the AUGMENT Group of the Computer Science Department of the University of Leuven, under the supervision of late Prof. Erik Duval.
I am a professional member of IEEE and ACM.
