Hi! My name is Sara Nuta and I’m a rising senior at NYU. I’m concentrating in journalism/media criticism and metropolitan studies at The Gallatin School of Individualized Study. I’m interested in the ways in which a city’s identity is defined by its local music scene. This summer, I hope to develop a better understanding of Albanian, Yemeni, and Bangladeshi musicians and artists in the South Bronx—which spaces they occupy, what kinds of performances they put on, and how their music impacts the community’s sense of place. I will be doing research in the South Bronx with The Bronx Music Heritage Foundation as a Gallatin Global Fellow in Urban Practice.
