Gay Adoption

After Pope Benedict called gay adoption “gravely immoral” and Massachusetts’ Catholic bishops declared that Catholic adoption agencies, such as Catholic Charities, cannot be involved in arranging adoptions by gay couples, Boston’s branch of Catholic Charities announced that it would no longer offer any adoption services at all and would not renew its 20-year contract with the state’s social services department, in order to avoid placing children with gay parents. The Washington Times reports that Catholic Charities agencies across the country, which are run largely at a local level, are waiting to see if the decision will affect the services their agency provides as well.
