Student Leaders at the Forefront of Sustainable Change

We’re only four weeks into the Fall semester and already our student sustainability leaders are in full force and ready to enact change. This month, student club and organization leaders gathered for the first ever Sustainability Dinner and Dialogue meeting, our EcoReps met for their Fall Orientation, and our ECommittee peer-mentors joined the Big Apple Leadership Retreat with the Office of Residential Life and Housing Services. Our administrators and staff in the Office of Sustainability are excited to continue sharing information and exchanging ideas with students. And this month was only the start of an ongoing conversation about NYU’s sustainability goals and communal achievements.

Green Grant Update: The Carry Your Own! Challenge

Sarah Dietz is a recent graduate of the Steinhardt Food Studies program, where she earned her M.A. in May of 2019. She has nearly a decade of professional experience investigating food related issues, focusing on health, food quality, garden education, and sustainability.  She was born and raised in New England, moved to NYC while pursuing her master’s, and now lives in Portland, Maine. Sarah’s current research addresses sustainable entrepreneurship and the food system’s connection to ocean health. She is active with her local Surfrider chapter and is dedicated to teaching others how to take better care of the environment through food choices and other daily habits.

Meet the Newest Additions to Our Team!

Tess von Kleist, Sustainability Assistant 

My name is Tess von Kleist, and I am a junior in CAS studying Environmental Studies and Urban Design and Architecture. My passion for sustainability and the environment grew out of seeing how the beautiful areas that I hiked with my mom were transformed by wildfires and development, and the skylines were clouded with smog. This is why my major is focused on greening the urban environment and building green infrastructure in our community. Outside of school I enjoy thrifting, hiking, and taking the Q down to the beach with my roommates. Read more

GREEN GRANT UPDATE: SUSTAINABLE MENSTRUATION INITIATIVE

Lubnah Ansari is a third-year undergraduate student at New York University Abu Dhabi. She is pursuing her B.A. in Social Research and Public Policy, along with a minor in The Environment. In 2017, she initiated the first Sustainable Menstruation Workshop on campus under the Ecoherence student interest group. In 2018, Lubnah was awarded the Innovative Leadership Award by the Campus Life Leadership Awards for her efforts towards the project.
