Classes start after Labor Day, that means students still have a whole month to enjoy NYC without the worry of essays and exams looming over. So put aloe vera on your burns and savor your last bit of summer with good food and better beaches.
Coney Island Friday Night Fireworks, every Friday at 9:30 p.m.
Coney Island is known for its hot dogs and boardwalks, but you can turn the summer festivities into a holiday every Friday in August. After work, take the Q down to Coney Island and ride the Thunderbolt and grab dinner at Nathan’s Famous before you head to the Boardwalk to watch the light’s show.
Restaurant Week, July 24-August 18
Dozens of NYC’s swankiest restaurants are offering the deal of the year. $29 for lunch and $42 for dinner will get you three gourmet courses. Feel boujee on a budget at some of the City’s greenest (and hottest) restaurants. I suggest booking a reservation at ABC Kitchen, Church & Day, Craft or Hearth.
Dear Evan Hansen might have won Best Musical, but Tank Theatre NYC’s Dark Fest has gotta be the coolest show this year. The theatre is completely shutting off the power for eight short plays ranging from an adaptation of an Edgar Alan Poe short story and one piece called “start by pushing on your eyeballs.”
Dark fest is a cross between Tisch experimental theatre and Unplugged, in the absolute dark the performers find creative ways to put on a show you won’t forget.
Dragon Boat Festival, August 12-13
A festival originating in China celebrating an ancient poet, everyone of all ages can enjoy watching the athletic feats with fearsome boats. Watch from Turn this sports spectacle into a whole day eating from the international food market and getting crafty in the arts tent.
Rain or shine, make your way to Flushing Meadows Park.
If you’re a fan of our Bike Share program, you’ll love a festival dedicated to all things unicycling. Whether you’re a 19th century dandy or new to cycling, join dozens of enthusiasts as they cycle across the Brooklyn Bridge.
