Join the 9/11 Memorial, the Professional Grounds Management Society and NYU Office of Sustainability for the Trees in Sacred Space event.

Experts will speak about the unique challenges of installing and maintaining 400 oak trees on a highly engineered urban site of national remembrance.

Speakers include:

Rashid Poulson, Horticultural Supervisor of Brooklyn Bridge Park
presenting on: “The Urban Succession Forest of Brooklyn Bridge Park

A Brooklyn native and ISA Certified Arborist, Rashid began his career in horticulture as a gardener with the Million Trees Training Program in 2009, later moving on to working on The Highline as a Gardening Intern. Since 2012, Rashid has worked his way up the ranks first as a seasonal gardener and now as Horticultural Supervisor at Brooklyn Bridge Park.

Brent Craft, Project Manager & Construction Supervisor, Kelco Construction, Inc.
presenting on: “Tree installation for the National 9/11 Memorial”

Brent Craft has over 20 years of experience in the field of landscape architecture, design, and construction on a wide range of project types from large public parks, university and corporate campuses, to smaller urban plazas and residential properties. These projects include, but are not limited to, National 9/11 Memorial with Peter Walker & Partners, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Jacob Javits Plaza, and the Novartis Headquarters Landscape in NJ with Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, several projects in Central Park with the Central Park Conservancy, Pier 15 at the East River Waterfront Esplanade with Ken Smith Workshop, Newport Green with Mathews Nielsen, and currently the Naval Hospital Cemetery Memorial Landscape with Nelson Byrd Woltz.

Mr. Craft has degrees in Landscape Architecture and Horticulture and is a member of the ASLA.

Wayne S. Dubin, Vice President & Division Manager  NY Metro West Divistion, The F.A. Bartlett Tree Expert Company
presenting on: “Tree Care and Maintenance at the National 9/11 Memorial”

Wayne earned a B.S. in Plant Science from Cook College, Rutgers University in 1982.       Wayne currently serves as Vice President and the Division Manager for Metro West Division (New York and New Jersey excluding Long Island) managing six offices and twenty-seven Arborist Representatives. He has a successful track record in sales and sales management for over thirty five years. Wayne is a member of the New York State Arborists Association and the New Jersey Arborists, Chapter ISA. He served as president of the New Jersey Arborists, Chapter ISA from 2006-2007. He is Vice-Chair of the New Jersey Community Forestry Council and is the incoming president of the New Jersey Shade Tree Federation. He also serves as the Bartlett Representative for the A300 Committee, which develops standards for the tree care industry.

Wayne is active in public speaking, specifically educational radio and television programs on gardening and tree care. He has guest hosted the Garden Hotline radio program and been a featured presenter on CNN’s Home Show.Wayne is Bartlett’s point person for the National 9/11 Memorial tree care project and has been involved with the project since 2006. He oversees all care of the trees and their management and has spoken extensively about the project at conferences both here in the United States and internationally.
