This page is designed to alleviate any stress for the families of students traveling in one of our programs. We’ve included some helpful tips to remember, as well as useful links to important resources. As always, if there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Steinhardt Global Affairs and we will do our best to assist in any way possible.
Some Reminders
- The time difference! Try to be mindful of the time when calling or messaging, as it could be the middle of the night for your student.
- Our programs are short-term and credit-bearing, so the days can be long and intense.
- International cellular service can vary by provider and location, but downloading a Wi-Fi based app like WhatsApp can help keep the lines of communication with your student open.
- Keep a copy of your student’s travel itinerary for reference.
Resources
- The US State Department frequently updates travel advisories for different regions. We encourage students and their families to check what advisories, if any, are issued about their program’s country, as well as any additional regions they plan to travel to.
- The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) offers up-to-date information on health concerns by region. It also provides helpful information regarding vaccines necessary for travel.
- Here is a list of every US Embassy and Consulate throughout the world. We encourage all students to note where the US Embassy in their country is located and the best way to contact them.
- All students are covered by GeoBlue Health Insurance for the duration of their program. You can find more information about GeoBlue on our Health page.
