Schedule Mapping Guidelines – MSGSCC

Full-time Students:
Please Note:  This is meant as a guide and does not account for all possible scenarios.  
 
As a 36 credit degree program, full-time enrollment equates to taking between 9-12 credits per semester. Students taking 12 credits per semester are able to complete the program in 18 months or 3 academic semesters. Students taking 9 credits per semester are able to complete within 18-24 months by taking courses in non-requisite terms (January term & Summer term). 
 
First Semester:
  • ALL New MSGSCC students take GLOB1-GC2510 Cyberspace: Technical, Operational and Strategic Perspectives (listed as GLOB1-GC2510 Cybersecurity ) – **This course should be taken in your first semester
  • For FT (12 credits) – Choose 3 additional core requirements OR 2 core requirements and one elective course.
  • For FT (9 credits) – Choose 2 additional core requirements.
Second Semester
  • Complete your core course requirements.
  • Begin taking elective courses of your choosing. 
  • **FT students may consider taking courses in a non-requisite semester (January term or Summer term) to complete by desired semester. Please contact cga.cybercrime@nyu.edu to schedule an appointment with the faculty or admin academic advisor to create a individualized course map. 
Third Semester: 
  • All core course requirements should be completed. If not, please take any remaining core courses.
  • FT (12 credits) will complete elective course & Final Requirement (Thesis/Capstone/Virtual Internship)
  • FT (9 credits) – If student has not taking courses in non-requisite semesters, continue taking elective courses. 
Fourth Semester: 
  • FT (9 credits) will complete remaining elective & Final Requirement (Thesis/Capstone/Virtual Internship)

Part-time Students: 

Please Note:  Part-time students have up to five years to complete the M.S. in Global Security, Conflict, and Cybercrime program. The guide below provides suggestions for your first few semesters.  However, we understand that part-time students all have individual circumstances and time-constraints that require a more personalized approach to course registration and their ultimate timeline for completion.  Part-time students should check-in with their academic advisors and MSGSCC admin advisor for more specialized guidance. 
 
First Semester:
  • ALL New MSGSCC students take GLOB1-GC2510 Cybersecurity (to be named Cyberspace: Technical, Operational and Strategic Perspectives) – this course is the pre-requisite for most core requirements and all electives.
  • PT (6 credits) – take additional core requirement.
Second Semester
  • PT (3 credits) – Continue taking core requirements
  • PT (6 credits) – Complete core requirements
Third Semester: 
  • PT (3 credits) – Continue taking core requirements
  • PT (6 credits) – Begin taking elective courses 
  • **PT students may consider taking courses in a non-requisite semester (January term or Summer term) to complete by desired semester. Please contact cga.cybercrime@nyu.edu to schedule an appointment with the faculty or admin academic advisor to create a individualized course map. 
Fourth Semester: 
  • PT (3 credits) – Take remaining core course requirement
  • PT (6 credit) – Continue taking elective courses 
Additional Semesters:
  • Take elective courses of your choosing
  • Make sure you’ve completed all required courses.
Final Semester:
  • Thesis/Capstone/Virtual Internship will be completed during this semester (if you are working full-time, please do not plan to take your thesis in conjunction with another course).
