3. Activate Your NetID and NYU Email
It is important for you to activate your NYU email account. Go to https://start.nyu.edu.
If you wish to use another email account as your primary email, you can simply forward your NYU email to that account. Once you log into home.nyu.edu, go to the Preferences tab in the upper right hand corner. Then go to email forwarding and follow the instructions.
4. Get your NYU ID Card
All students are required to have a student ID card in order to obtain access to campus classrooms, offices and services. The NYU Card Center allows students to upload identification (ID) card photos in the weeks prior to your arrival on campus. It is recommended that you send your photo rather than waiting until your arrival on campus. By uploading your photo before you arrive, you avoid lines at the Card Center. In turn the Card Center staff will process and print your student ID card before you arrive on campus. Once you arrive, all you have to do is visit the Card Center to pick up your ID card and start accessing NYU’s campuses. To begin the process simply follow the 3 easy steps outlined in the NYU ID Card Instructions.
The NYU Card Center is located at 7 Washington Place (at the corner of Mercer Street). The NYU Card Center office hours are Monday to Friday: 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, though hours are subject to change. Visit their website or call 212-443-CARD for center hours.
5. Register for Classes
Official registration information, dates, and deadlines will be sent to new students via email. It is recommended to sign up for classes early to ensure access to preferred days and times. Access the registration system at NYU Home under the Academics tab. Be sure to read about planning your first semester course load in the New Student Guide.
6. Buy Books
You can buy or rent books online via Amazon or other booksellers. Also, the NYU Bookstore sells copies of the required readings for most of your classes as well as general stationery and NYU-branded items. The main location is 726 Broadway.

7. Find Housing
University Housing
You must be a full-time student (12 credits/semester) to be eligible to live in NYU graduate dormitory-style housing. Housing information and an application form has been provided with your acceptance letter from the Office of Admissions. If you did not receive one, call 212.998.7100. You can also visit the housing website for more information.
Housing is based on a lottery system to students entering in the fall term, and by waiting list for students entering in the spring term. You are not guaranteed a spot. Unfortunately, there is no housing available for married students or families.
Off-Campus Housing
Most students reside off campus. We strongly suggest you look for off-campus alternatives early in your search process. You can probably find an apartment and roommate for the same monthly rent that you would pay for a graduate student dorm.
8. Get Your Shots!
Upload proof of your COVID-19 vaccination history through the NYU Proof of Vaccination Page.
Paperwork regarding MMR Immunization was sent to you with your admissions package. It is a New York State law that requires students attending all colleges and universities within the state to have immunization against measles, mumps, and rubella (German Measles). The law applies to all students (both undergraduate and graduate) born after December 31, 1956, who enroll for six or more credits at NYU. Please do not take this law lightly. NYU simply will not allow you to register for class until you have your health clearance! For more information please contact the NYU Health Center.
You will be sent information from the University regarding health insurance. Two separate policies serve U.S. citizens and international students. If you wish to waive this insurance because of other coverage, you will be required to return the waiver form with proof of insurance by the stated deadline; unless you do so, you will be billed for insurance with no retroactive correction possible. 9. Attend the New Student Essentials Orientation Event
This event is an opportunity to connect with the many MSGA and MSGSCC student organizations, meet other new and current students, and learn about NYU’s many resources. It is typically held during the first week of classes. Official event communications will be sent to all candidates via email.
