Academic Request Forms

For special academic requests, please fill out the appropriate form from the list below. Academic petitions include waiving a required course, transfer of credits, and matriculation requests, such as Leave of Absence and Maintenance of Matriculation. Requests are granted at the approval of the Academic Director. You will be notified by a member of the CGA administrative team once a decision has been reached, or if additional information is required.

Note: Students must request all waivers/transfers before the start of their second semester or before the completion of 12 credits. Requests later than this will not be considered.

CGA Petition to Waive Required Course – Typically, requirements are waived in cases where students have completed substantial graduate level work in the same area, or hold an undergraduate degree in the area (i.e. a BA in International Business to waive out of IPE). Student must have achieved a B average or higher in the course to be considered.

CGA Petition to Transfer Credits – Students can request to transfer up to 6 credits (two courses) from degree-relevant graduate-level work successfully completed prior to matriculation in the program. NYU will evaluate transfer credits from other institutions taken after a student matriculates into the program only in cases where an equivalent course is not offered by any department at the University and cannot be fulfilled as an Independent Study.  PLEASE NOTE: You will be asked to submit course syllabi and official transcripts. If you submit an unofficial transcript, Academic Records will not process the transfer credit request and you will need to send the official transcript to the CGA department at a later date.

The NYU School of Professional Studies requires continuous enrollment of graduate students each fall and spring semester until the degree sought is granted. Summer is optional. To maintain continuous matriculation, students must:

  • Register during the fall and spring semesters for at least one credit-bearing course until the degree is conferred, or
  • Register for maintenance of matriculation and pay registration and service fees in fall and spring semesters when the student is taking no coursework, or
  • Take an approved leave of absence, except in the semester of graduation.

CGA Research Fund
The CGA Research Fund (RF) will consider grant applications across the board, and will make a minimum of $1,000 available each semester in individual awards of generally up to $200.  The CGA Research Fund is intended to support travel and other expenses relating to especially novel or significant thesis/capstone research or to support the costs of registration, travel, and accommodation for participation in conferences and similar events (i.e., presenting a paper, acting as a discussant or the like, not simply attending the event).  Applications are reviewed by the associate dean and the academic chair.
