Join Our Research Team!
As a research assistant, you will learn about the nuts and bolts of doing psychological research in a friendly and enthusiastic environment.
What Will I Be Doing?
As a research assistant, you will work closely with other lab members (including undergraduate and graduate students, members of the community, academic professionals, and Dr. Sirin) on one or more of our current research projects. Your responsibilities may include: collecting and managing data; transcribing and coding; doing library research; designing studies; doing literature searches and reviews, maintaining the lab, administering surveys, preparing study materials, contacting study participants on the phone, and contacting recruitment sites. RA’s also contribute to the maintenance of the lab (eg., managing desktop folders, cleaning, copying articles, filing, answering the phone) and attending a weekly 1-hour research meeting.
During these meetings:
- Complete administrative tasks;
- Talk about conceptual and methodological issues related to immigration and identity studies;
- Check-in with various projects; discuss funding (scholarships, grants opportunities); provide feedback on papers and presentations;
- Plan preparation of manuscripts and posters for conferences
What is the Time Commitment?
We request a minimum of an 8-10-hour commitment a week for at least one academic year. This level of involvement will help you gain the most from this experience.
What Qualifications Do I Need?
We’re looking for research assistants with a range of experiences and qualifications. An interest in psychological science and in pursuing graduate studies in psychology is ideal. We’re looking for intellectually curious, diligent, and organized team players interested in studying marginalized children and youth.
How Do I Join?
This is the best way to indicate your interest in joining the lab. Please do not reach out to Dr. Sirin directly if you want to be considered as a research assistant applicant.
