Research Posts:
There are three research posts due throughout semester that will scaffold the work for each project.
Research Post 1: Risograph printing
Find two practitioners (artists or designers) who are working with Risograph printing in their work and discuss a project from each of them in this post. Include some information about their background, interests, process, where they are coming from, where they are based. Post to the discord channel labelled “Research Posts”.
Due date: In class Thursday November 2nd
Research Post 2: Generative Design
Do the readings for Week 3:
- Excerpt (Chapter 30, p. 64-81) from 10 PRINT, by Nick Montfort et al.
- Excerpt (Chapter 1, p. 17-37) from Graphic Games, by Victor Baumgartner, paying the most attention to “Game C”.

Write a brief response to something that you found interesting or helpful in these readings. Discuss in regards to one or more examples of work from one of the artists or designers mentioned in class or listed at the bottom of the brief for Assignment 2.
Due date: In class Thursday November 16th
Research Post 3: Zines
Write a research post that discusses 3 different zines or experimental publications you have looked at in your research and zine ideation process. Choose your three examples, either work you have found in your own research, examples you found on the class field trip, the arena board, or the notes docs from Week 5 and 6 of class.
Include a screen shot or photo and write a paragraph on each. Discuss the goal of the zine, what the author’s objectives were in creating it, if it is for a particular audience, the aesthetic and approach to design and how it was printed (riso, photocopier etc.)
