Welcome to New York University Undergraduate Psychology Review!
There are very few universities that offer a research journal to publish papers and abstracts in the field of psychology that are specifically for undergraduate work. Those that do are comprised of manuscripts conditioned by extraneous criteria, publishing works that are specific to conventional areas of psychological study. Many undergraduate psychology journals exclusively publish empirical data, abstracts of proposed projects, and reviews of a coalition of studies, but the field of psychology is much more integrative than that. Psychology, as a study of the human mind and behavior in cognitive, forensic, developmental, and social contexts, is an incredibly interdisciplinary field, and we believe it deserves a platform that exemplifies this diversity.
An undergraduate research and review journal at NYU publishes manuscripts that vary tremendously in the range of topics, from neurobiological arguments for human behavior, to psychological profiles of world leaders in history, as well as comprehensive characterizations of behavioral economics and the consumer marketplace.
All publishable papers stem from one of the many fields of psychology, and as a result this journal acts as a platform for open discussions and allows authors of different backgrounds to exchange ideas – each contributing a unique perspective to the shared discipline of psychology. The integrative nature of psychology lends itself to virtually every field of study, including science, history, pop-culture, and economics, to name a few, and this journal provides a platform to demonstrate this.
The New York University Integrative Psychology Review, is open for submission to students across all the undergraduate schools at NYU and also accepts submissions from undergraduates at external universities, as long as the paper submitted relates to psychology. It is a biannual journal, published for the first time in December of 2021, with another publication to follow in the Spring of 2022.
As an institution, NYU houses so many creative minds in an incredibly diverse academic community, of which many study subjects that can be applied to psychology. As one of the most versatile and multifaceted fields, psychology warrants its own research and review journal, and given the academic diversity and across-school capability, NYU is the most qualified to host this integrative psychological journal. A collaborative effort such as this one across seemingly distinct disciplines – all under the umbrella of psychology – can provide incredible opportunities for advancement and innovative approaches for research in a variety of fields from a plethora of perspectives, which NYU IPR has the privilege of hosting.
