Learning to Teach Creative Technologies with Generative AI: A Virtual UnSymposium was hosted by the Integrated Design and Media (IDM) program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, on Friday, January 19, 2024, 8:45am–6:30pm EDT.

Please visit the Schedule At A Glance or Detailed Schedule for the schedule, talk descriptions, and speaker details.

This event welcomed all educators interested in exploring generative AI and its impact on education at the intersections of media, design, art, and technology. This virtual gathering is an opportunity to be in dialogue with other media, design, art, and creative technology educators about teaching and learning in this new generative AI landscape within higher education, K-12, or non-profits. We shared what worked and didn’t work with generative AI in our classrooms this past year and discussed opportunities and challenges for teaching and learning in the coming semester.

26+ educators across international universities, colleges, and non-profits such as Arizona State University (ASU), Avenues São Paulo, Berea College, California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Code.org®, University of the Arts Utrecht (HKU), Kansas City Art Institute (KCAI), Lehigh University, New York University (NYU), Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD), Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), Tech Kids Unlimited (TKU), Toronto Metropolitan University, University of the Arts London (UAL), University of California, Irvine (UCI), University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of California, Santa Clara (UCSC), University College of London (UCL), and University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS) gave 10-minute, case-study presentations about generative AI use in their classrooms.

These sessions were not recorded due to the ever-evolving nature of generative AI and burgeoning ideas.
