Customer Service Imposter Scams

The Federal Trade commission (“FTC”) has issued an advisory on a new type of imposter scam, which involves scammers posing as members of customer service departments of well known companies. Please be advised that If you do an online search for a customer service number, the information displaying at the top of your search results may not be legitimate. These scammers may be seeking money or your sensitive information such as passwords, or remote access to your device.

Rather than do an online search for customer service, it is recommended that you:

  • Visit the website of a company you wish to contact, and locate the customer service contact information on the website.
  • Check product packaging for customer service information.
