Dell recently released a software update that fixes a privilege elevation vulnerability in SupportAssist 2.0. SupportAssist is software that is preinstalled on most of its Windows endpoints. SupportAssist performs diagnostics and streamlines the creation of support tickets by reporting data back to Dell. This vulnerability, could lead to arbitrary code execution, so Dell users, who do not use the application’s auto-update capability are advised to update as soon as possible.
For business PCs, v 2.1.4 contains the software fix. For home PCs, v 3.4.1 has the fix. To check which version of SupportAssist you’re running, or to update Support Assist, open SupportAssist and go to: “Settings” → “About SupportAssist” → “Update Now”.
