Image of a group of Black men in white button down shirts dancing: 3 men who raise one arm whilst bending backward to reach the ground with their other arm are the focus of the image. The sepia image has 'Give Us This Day' written across the top.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day, our daily bread, and forgive us of our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power, the glory and the honor are yours now and forever!

It is believed that this prayer comes from the mouth of Jesus. Growing up between Catholic and Baptist Church, The Lord’s Prayer was ingrained in me as a youth. It took a long time for me to think for myself about what these words can mean. Too often, little to no thought is given to the things we say, see or do most frequently, especially when inherited.

Now, it is with great intention that I ask God to give us this day.

Give us this day to enjoy, to gather, to create, to love, to dance, to share, to plant, to water, to grow. Give us this day to heal, hope, and work towards a world of peace.

With gratitude, I welcome all to share in the traditions of love, faith, and resistance that raised me.
