The IDGAF Awards synthesizes the experience of overthinking into a trophy for letting go. It can be presented after double-texting your crush, blowing your nose in class, or outfit repeating. In conversations with other women in my life, I’ve found that we relate to each other about overthinking and the ways we are perceived by others. While this statement, ‘I don’t give a fuck,’ is one that generally symbolizes an unmotivated attitude, in this piece I aim to recast it as a statement of empowerment where viewers can celebrate moments that are not usually celebrated.

Caroline Larsen

Caroline Larsen, a multimedia artist from Los Angeles, works primarily in textile, ceramic, photography, and design. In her work, she explores ideas of femininity, autobiography, and popular culture. She is interested in the ways that social media and gross media consumption have impacted our relationships with others and ourselves. Growing up in Los Angeles , Caroline has seen no shortage of media or self-obsessed social climbers. Her work takes a closer look at why. A senior, drawing from art history, philosophy, curatorial studies, post-colonial theory, dance, and studio art practice, Caroline’s Gallatin concentration—Representation and Experience; Images, Bodies, and Archives—is an inquiry into the relationships and power dynamics between what we see and believe and how representation influences our experience and actions.
