ARTIST STATEMENT
Un Homenaje a Tata was created in honor of my grandma. The piece attempts to explore the stages of grief through a psychological frame in the hope of processing loss and change. Denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance make up the cycle of grief. But can we truly process grief in only five stages?
The work was created in collaboration with composer Quintin Danzi, filmmaker Emily Fales, and the amazing dancers Jade Diskin, Elizabeth Jenkins, Schuyler Kechely, Andrea Mish, Amanda Ostuni, Hanna Pawlowski, Liza van Heerden, and Tehya West. I will eternally be grateful to my mentor Davin Ingram for believing in this vision and helping me bring it to life. Rest easy, Tata.
