COWS
STATEMENT:
This particular artwork is a documentation of the cows in southwest Sweden. I have many photos illustrating my life in Sweden, but I wanted to extract a sliver of an important subject, animals. Specifically, I photographed the large, slow cows around my home because I’ve known them for years and they are always around. (The sheep scurry away when I approach.) These cows are life-enjoyers who dedicate their lives to munching on grass, wallowing in the shallow sea, and basking in the summer sun. I’ve unintentionally observed these cows throughout the years, from watching them roam around the field at dusk from the living room window to watching them dip their wet snouts into the warm sand next to sunbathers. Falkenberg is wonderful and small. I spend every summer translating my appreciation and passion for this place through photos that display its character as I take photos of my grandparents, the animal hospital, crawling babies, festivals, the dump, sorts of configurations, and even a cow with a delicate tear running down its jaw.
