ARTIST STATEMENT:

The song “Dog Day After-Tune” is from his recent release Dog EP. Lately, he has been experimenting with “performing” digital narratives and capturing them via screen recording. This music video in particular uses the FREE section of Craigslist for its source material. By looking at the odd variety of items that get posted there, one can imagine any number of backstories. By stringing together a series of these posts a narrative can emerge.

BIO:

Scott Making Cents is the artist name for musician and humorist Scott Greenberg. His latest project is Dog EP, a 3 song album about man’s best friend. Scott is currently working on a master’s thesis called “The Apparent Bias Against Comedic Popular Music,” which investigates the relegation of funny music to lower aesthetic tiers.

His artistic goal is to challenge people’s expectations of what should be considered appropriate content for art. He does not believe that art must be incredibly important, reveal some kind of mystical truth, or provoke an existential transformation of being. He is very interested in how humor fits into art (or doesn’t sometimes). In general, his work is intended to bridge the high and low brow. By choosing relatively banal subject matter and utilizing humor, he wants the viewer/listener to think about how they make aesthetic evaluations.
