ARTIST STATEMENT:

“I wrote Come Back Down in the wake of my own ill-fated long distance relationship after listening to Lido’s long awaited sophomore album, PEDER.

Lido is one of those creative geniuses that you only hope to come across in your lifetime. His work as a producer and a musician is unparalleled. His music is pure magic: unexpected, profound, and grand sonic landscapes. You can’t help but want to live in his songs forever. Listening to PEDER, I saw my experiences so clearly, they looked like movie scenes playing in front of me.

That’s exactly what led me to make PEDER the soundtrack to Nell and Peder’s intergalactic love story.

This story immortalizes my year and the year that so many others had, where we all felt like we were living on different planets, where all of our love seemed to be thwarted by forces so out of our control.

We all wonder what the universe has in store for us, and we all hope that the stars will align. I can’t help feeling like the stars were on my side when I wrote this film.

This is for everyone whose love has transcended time, space, distance, and fate.”

Emily’s concentration focuses on the art of adaptations: their social & historical importance, their artistic development, and why we choose to translate stories across mediums.

Her work explores the intersections between music and performance through visual albums, music videos, and jukebox musicals. The stories she crafts find their roots in her favorite albums and songs, built on the lyrics and aesthetics of each respective artist. Her synesthesia also aids in translating sound to concept, adding in her visions of temperatures, colors, and textures.

She has an affinity for Greek & Roman literature, manifestation rituals, sneakers, and dancing around her kitchen while she does the dishes.
