Tea Room
“Humanity has met a teacup.”
Weaving a variety of mediums together–including sound installation, sculpture, happening, podcast, poetry, and performance—Wang strives to capture the multi-sensory, healing experience of tea-drinking. Tea Room serves as an embodiment of the pre and post colonial history, aesthetic, philosophy, and identity politics of tea and tea-drinking. Through the investigation of navigating one’s personal identity, he uses this interdisciplinary project to address the evolution from ethnic minority to global citizen in intercultural dialogues.
Haotian Wang (He/Him) is a multidisciplinary artist and composer working with sound, field recordings, performance, and poetry. As a Hani ethnic minority from Yunnan, China, Wang aims to blend contemporary sounds and reframe often-ignored traditions and narratives. His debut album, The Bridge in The Mountain’s Hands (A Travelog), envelops travelog out of Chinese folk music, ambient, and spoken-word poetry. Wang is also a member of an electronic duo “Parallel EVE” with artist Yaojiu19.
