DIASPORIC TREMORS: A HYBRID FISHBOWL DISCUSSION

Wednesday May 31, 2023 | 6:30 PM-9:00 PM

Presented in tandem with The Gallatin Galleries exhibition Diasporic Tremors (May 31-June 14, 2023), curators Ellada Evangelou (21-22 Gallatin Global Faculty in Residence) and Keith Miller (Curator, The Gallatin Galleries), along with artists Suneil Sanzgiri, Tara Homasi, Argyro Nicolaou, Ibi Ibrahim, Margaux Fitoussi, Myriam Amri, Anooj Bhandari, Chan Lin (BA ‘13), and Val Ramirez, invite participants to a roundtable discussion that will allow attendees to interact, participate, and share. Moderated by the curators, our discussion will allow attendees to engage in broader dialogue and will welcome statements and responses from those in attendance, as well as selected participants who hail from outside the US, to democratize the discussion and create a collective dialogue.

The Diasporic Tremors exhibition examines the ways in which trauma is embedded in those who have left their home countries. The show includes work from artists based in the tri-state area, including those who hail from China, Cyprus, India, Iran, Kashmir, Mexico, Tunisia, and Yemen. With visual representations from artists who, for whatever reason, no longer live in their home countries, the works included offer viewers a means of seeing place through the lens of present and past experience.
