Torie Zalben

Torie Zalben is a Multimedia photographer and filmmaker known for her work depicting dream-like characters in abstract settings.  Her use of combining genres of fantasy with images of phosphorescent illuminations in water are inspired by Maya Deren’s love for the element and metaphor of water and in-camera techniques. Zalben invites the world of varied perspectives and subjective understandings as a means of interpreting her work. Inspiration from her study of film and predilections for dream worlds synthesize her cosmology as an artist.

Born in Los Angeles, CA she attended Loyola Marymount University and received her BA in 2011, and her MA from New York University in 2015.

Zalben has been exhibiting her work since 2011 and today is in the permanent collection of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study.
