Concrete Iris
Concrete Iris is an exploration of the digital parallelism between ideas and aesthetics inspired by art, design, and media theories. Through 3D modeling, rendering, and animating, Zhou investigates the representation and integration of visual patterns and ideas while building them into a virtual object that can be viewed as a whole or fragments, gigantic object or delicate diorama. The intertwining relationship between circulation and duplication indicate the nexus of aesthetics and artistic explorations as self-circulating across social and media contexts, emerging in front of our eyes.
Mnemosyne
Mnemosyne is a series of AR experiences separated in four chapters. The work integrates Zhou’s experience with reflection about interactions in public spaces through 3D creations and compositions. The merge between abstract textures and shapes with images explores the crystallization process of memories from experiences, achieving an experience at the intersection of mixed reality technologies. The four chapters combine multiple landscapes to question the viewer’s memory under the interference of digital technology.
Jun Zhou (she/her) is a Beijing/New York based digital media artist and designer with a concentration titled Cyberspace Narrative at NYU Gallatin. She explores a variety of tools and forms to create a fabricated experience and continuum of narrative through interactive experiences, video art, mixed reality, games, etc. Zhou’s practice focuses on the possibility of interaction with media, ontologies, and aesthetics to reflect our intertwining relationship between perspective, aesthetics, and situation in contemporary society.
