ARTIST STATEMENT
Photograph explores the tension between the creative and destructive components of the photographic image. To create the piece a silicone mold was made of a Polaroid Swinger Model 20. The camera was then promptly destroyed and broken into small pieces, all of which were subsequently embedded within the silicone mold using clear resin. The resulting copy of this camera contains the original; simultaneously, the copy’s existence is contingent on the original’s destruction. Photography similarly attempts to capture something momentary by preserving it, but in the process erodes its singularity.
