STATEMENT:
“As a Trans oral historian, interdisciplinary artist, and zinester, celebrating embodied knowledge and performance, peeling back layers of social and narrative realities, and building community through sharing narratives of survival and futurity are things I want to explore in, out of, and beyond my artistic/life practice.
I’m interested in Trans joy. I’m interested in enacting Trans joy. I’m interested in traversing Queer time and alien realities. Time is dead; revelations are alive. I’m interested in artistic communities that serve, show up for, and celebrate Black Trans Lives. Through sharing my art I hope to share Trans joy, Trans futures, and create a Queer-Trans Space-Time Pocket.”
BIO:
Ryan Hoover is an emerging Trans Oral Historian, Zinester, and a hot genderfucked slut. A (very eager to get the hell out) NYU Shanghai senior, their major is Humanities (concentration in Trans Oral History) with a double minor in Performance Studies and Neural Science. Ryan’s artistic/life practice is one that cherishes collage and the process’ messy serendipitousness. Beginning with a Trans awakening, 2021 was a year of growth and experimentation through zine making, oil pastels, selling said zines in Washington Square Park, background acting, having a lot of hot-ass-Trans-ass sex, wearing what feels right, having recorded conversations with legendary Trans drag performers (like Junior Mintt & Mthr Trsa), napping, and now bedazzling. They would much rather be in a park with their partner smoking a joint and eating snacks, but if they have to be in an NYU building, it may as well be to share their Trans-ass art.
