An Excuse to Move
STATEMENT:
This series came from a tattoo I was designing for myself. The first of the series is actually on my arm now. But once I drew it, I found it really fun to draw these bodies in movement and ended up creating a few more as an homage to dance and movement, another art practice that I have loved for so long. I don’t feel like my work always has to be deep or have some meaningful themes hidden within it, but I do hope that this series serves as a reminder that dance should be connected with your body, movement for the sake of joy, and should (at least at times) digress from rigid ideals of technique, perfection, etc., which are sometimes perpetuated in the dance world.
ARTIST BIO:
I have always loved drawing. When I was a kid, I tried really hard to hone that passion and be one of those artists who could draw a face so realistically that you’d think it was a photograph. As I got older and became frustrated with how unrealistic my drawings would turn out, I realized what was way more fun and way less stressful was making art without the pressure of realism. From this realization came a few years of art that plays into the appeal of the ugly and ignores most artistic ideals of technique and aesthetic. I just love to create silly drawings that don’t necessarily mean something profound but are fun (or maybe creepy) to look at. Find me on Instagram at @fartsnofarting.
